DID YOU HAVE A HEN PARTY OR STAG NIGHT ! Since the 1960s when Hen And Stag nights began a lot have changed from the 1960s , 70s and 80s . In those days The Hen And Stag Parties would have arrived at The Pub around 7.30 / 8 pm ( usually around 20 to 30 people ) then after a few drinks would jump onto a mini Bus or Coach and off they would go to a Dancehall , Discotheque , Nightclub or Restaurant . Lots of clubs always use to give the Hen a Free bottle of bubbly while the Hen Party would be dancing round their handbags . The hen party record in those days use to be the 1964 single by The Dixiecups “ Going To The Chapel “ . Some Hen Parties use to go in Fancy Dress ( Nuns , St Trinians Etc ) . It was a lot different for The Stag Parties if they wanted to go to a club there was Dress Restrictions ( Suit and a tie ) also most clubs wouldn’t let in more than 2 males so the trick was turn up in 2s and if they were turned away they would go to the back of the queue and ask a young lady politely if he could go in to the club with her and he would pay and it usually worked . Popular nights use to be Thursdays and Fridays ( 1 or 2 nights before the wedding . First Stag Night I went on was at Barbarellas Nightclub in Birmingham on a Friday night and remember getting in at 3 am and the wedding was at 11 am on the Saturday morning . I’m glad to say The Bridegroom got to the church on time and is still happily married . In the 1990s “ The Full Monty “ film came out and suddenly there were Hen Nights every day of the week . Hen and Stag nights now in present day upto 2020 spend weekends away at Cities and Country’s and I even know various parties going to Las Vegas . How times have changed .
